According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, SAD affects an estimated 6% of Americans, causing depression, lethargy, irritability, and a desire to avoid social situations. Incidences of the disorder are higher in Canada and the UK, and can be as high as 20% in Scandinavian countries.

Light therapy is the most common treatment for SAD, from a full-spectrum light using beams more intense than normal light. These special lights mimic natural sunlight and have been shown to improve mood, energy, and overall well-being.
